Quality first teaching
Quality First Teaching is a style of teaching that emphasises high quality, inclusive teaching for all pupils in a class. Quality first teaching includes adaptive learning, strategies to support SEN pupils’ learning in class, on-going formative assessment and many others.
Though the minutiae of what it involves has changed over time, some core principles have remained consistent – personalising learning to the individual needs of pupils, encouraging greater inclusion of pupils with SEN needs, and working to narrow the attainment gap.
Cut-Away
We use the cut away approach to facilitate the quality first teaching. This means each of the children are assessed and then given learning that is best suited to move those children on. The teacher and teaching assistant will continuously assess the children and 'cut them away' to either re teach or extend the children's learning throughout each lesson. This results in lessons being planned and tailored to individuals needs.
